One of the things that I found really interesting about those books (in a Meta sense) is that most of the detractors seem to agree that it could have been a good story in the hands of other writer. One that at the very least had some imagination to set him/herself apart from the clichés and who treated the characters as more than action figures or “meat puppets”
In fact, that is the main reason I could say that I don't actively hate those books. Much like Stephenie Meyer´s The Host, they exalt my imagination BECAUSE the numerous flaws we all know they have. I like to see lost potential and exploit it.
And that is more or less what I´m about to do here. I´m going to discuss several of the characters of the Cycle and order them by how much potential they lost.
I´ll divide this "Tournament" in two rounds. One for the supporting cast and other dedicated only to the dragons and their riders. Feel 1000% free to be my court of law and comment below if you would change some of those, or tell your own ideas about what could be done with those wastes of a cast.
