Greetings everyone!
I've been thinking of something for a while now and I was going to wait until the Brisingr sporking was finished but I decided I'm just going to put this out now for consideration ; the timing is nice with new members joining us. It is a special idea that came to me because I think most of us here are aspiring writers/beginning writers/writers.
Since most of us here are writers, professional or amateurs, I've been seriously thinking of the idea of us doing a series of short stories told from different POVs that tell a larger story. We could then put together an antishurtugal anthology. Each of us could pick a character and write chapters or short stories from his/her perspective.
So what would the setting be? True to our nature as antishurtugal, how about a story about a dragon rider who rules like a medieval aristocrat over his lands and people, and the various members of his court? Imagine the dragon rider without wards! But he/she would have magic skills, and would be every bit as arrogant and pompous as someone of that power would be. But would maybe also be protective over the people and otherwise guard them against any variety of monsters and, say, neighbouring dragon riders and their domains?
For the various characters we could pick, they would/could be various members of the dragon rider's court and not just military but also servants, functional, or entertaining. And also antagonists. The idea would be to have as many different perspectives on the plot as possible. :
- the dragon rider himself/herself
- dragon-stablemaster who feeds and care for the dragon
- a professional man-at-arms in the dragon-rider's retinue, maybe a captain of his soldiers (one I'd like to take)
- a mage/older person who is the dragon-rider's teacher
- a court troubadour
- a brigand (possible antagonist)
- a professional assassin being trained and drilled for a mission by the main antagonist.
and I'm open to plenty of other ideas! The personalities of these characters would be ours to decide, like the rules of magic, the abilities of dragons, and the plots.
So what do you think?
