It's such a small detail, but it's a really odd one, and not for the better imo. For peasants, I guess it's not that big of a deal, but the whole "soandso's son" for nobility just seems backwards. How do they even identify their houses? ASOIAF is kind of medieval, but they have last names. House Lannister, Stark, etc. It just seems like a half-assed way to make it seem epic and old, but it doesn't. This shit ain't LOTR, and even the hobbits had last names in LOTR, so.
